Posted September 29, 2018 06:53:10A Perth teacher who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in her class at an Australian secondary school has been found guilty.
The court heard the teacher abused the girl for years.
The woman had no prior convictions for child sex offences, but had been accused of the abuse because she was a teacher.
She had pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and two counts of sexual penetration of a child.
She has also been sentenced to three years in jail.
The jury of 12 men and seven women found the woman guilty of one count each of aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a minor.
The prosecution said she had used the girl in the classroom to teach her the value of sex and the importance of education.
It said she would teach her students about the risks of being abused and the consequences of failing to protect themselves.
The girl had told police that she had been assaulted in the past.
The teacher, who has not been named, has been in custody since she was arrested last month.
