How can we combat child soldiers’ recruitment and recruitment practices

More children are being recruited by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIS, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund.

According to a report released this week, more than half of all children are either recruited or are being taught in the groups’ “jihadi schools” that use “a mix of online videos, written materials, and social media to motivate children to fight,” as the report said.

It said nearly half of those children who have been recruited are under the age of 18.

The report comes as U.S. officials are considering whether to launch airstrikes against ISIS camps in northern Syria, where ISIS fighters are holding more than 10,000 children.
