In the past year, we’ve seen a massive surge in the number of children learning to work in the construction industry, with more than 40% of young workers being employed in the industry in 2016.
The boom in the UK’s construction industry has been driven by a surge in demand from the UK government, with over 10 million new jobs created in the past 12 months, according to the Department for International Development.
In 2016, the government invested £6.7bn in a new construction apprenticeship scheme, giving them a pathway to a job in the private sector, and in 2017, the apprenticeship fund was expanded by another £6bn.
With construction apprenticeships available across the UK, it is now possible to get a foot in the door, with companies such as Dene, Pest Control and Shingle offering apprenticeships to the most ambitious young people in the country.
So how can you help your children get a better start in life?
There are many ways to get involved with the construction apprentices, with a number of different opportunities available, such as the apprenticeships scheme, and also through local projects and workshops.
